Qualifications

The Board is comprised of seven directors, appointed, to alternating three-year terms. Board directors are not paid; they give freely of their time to serve the community. Further information about qualifications and appointments can be found in the bylaws posted above.

Any person who is not employed by PSAS and who meets the qualifications may seek election as a Board director.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Board of Directors for PSAS ensures responsible management of the school, is responsive to the needs of PSAS’ staff, students and families, and is committed to the democratic principles at the heart of the Paideia philosophy of education. The duties and responsibilities of Board members include:

  • Protecting and promoting the essential mission of PSAS.

  • Providing strategic leadership for the school, including defining a long term vision and setting strategic goals.

  • Selecting and supervising the Head of School.

  • Complying with district policies and contracts and PSAS policies, including the Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, the charter, and contracts and agreements with the Pueblo City Schools.

  • Promoting healthy community relations.

  • Attending monthly and special board meetings, committee meetings and work sessions.

  • Engaging in responsible financial management according to its policies.

  • Participating in periodic board training conferences and work sessions.

  • Assuming certain legal obligations including a duty of care (to take reasonable care when making decisions), a duty of loyalty (to act in the best interest of PSAS when making decisions), a general fiduciary duty (to keep PSAS’s financial well-being in mind), and a duty of recusal when decisions may comprise a conflict of interest.
